Army also put on alert: Wasan

Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wasan has said that the army has also been put on alert, besides, the police and Rangers, to face any eventuality during Muharram.
"We have received threats of acts of terrorism during Muharram 8, 9 and 10 not only in Karachi but indications are there for other parts of the province and country as well during the mourning processions," he said while talking to media persons after visiting and reviewing the security measures at main Numaish Chowrangi here on Saturday.
He said that at least 300 streets along the traditional routes of procession to be taken out from Numaish to Imambargah Hussainian Iranian, Kharadar would be sealed. He further said that several thousands of policemen and Rangers would be deployed to oversee the security along the routes, rooftops, besides, search mechanism, walk-through gates would also be available to scan the participants of the processions.
The minister said that helicopter surveillance will also be carried out which will also be in touch with the main control room of the Central Police Office (CPO) and the hospitals have also been alerted in case of any emergency. Referring to compensation to the heirs of the victims of terrorism during 2009 and 2010, he said the families of 19 killed in acts of terrorism will get Rs 0.5 million each and those of 115 injured people will get Rs 0.1 million each by Monday next.
