The labourers working at the kilns should be included in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) so that poor labourers can get some financial assistance and could get benefit from this programme. This was sated by Khalid Mehmood Director Benazir Income Support Programme while addressing a function here on Sunday.
More than 200 kiln labourers participated in the function. Raja Abbas Director, Association of Network for Community Empowerment said that labourers are not entitled to the facilities of social security due to which they do not get free medicine from the government in case they fell sick. They also do not get benefit of medical facilities being provided to other labourers by the government whereas these labourers are the genuine rightful people.
The elders and children work day and night even during windy and stormy conditions. He further said they cannot get healthy meals from their meagre wages. The kiln owners said that the government should some legislation in this regard. Khalid Mahmood Director Benazir Income Support Programme said that the surveys of labourers of the kilns situated on the Raiwind Road and its suburbs have been completed due to which every family will get monthly Rs 1,000. As far as the social security scheme is concerned, this department is under the control of Punjab Government and only Punjab government can do something in this regard.
