Anjuman Kashtkaran Punjab (AKP) President, Peerzada Abdul Ali Zakir Usmani has welcomed the increase of Rs 100 in support price of Wheat. In a press statement issued here on Wednesday Peerzada said that fresh prices of Urea and non-availability of fertilisers on reasonable prices is very concerning matter.
He said that the wheat production target of 26 million tons is unlikely to be achieved this year because the trend of cultivating certified seed has decreased substantially. He also said that non-serious attitude of the government towards the agriculture has put the economy and food security at high risk.
He further said that the Punjab Seed Corporation produced one million bags of wheat seed out of which only 325,000 have been utilised by the end of wheat sowing season. He said that the poor growers could not use the certified seeds due to the sluggish attitude of the agriculture department. Peerzada further added that the ratio of the use of standardised and certified seeds has decreased up to 50 per cent this year if compared with the previous years.
