Non implementation of agreement: KESC workers to hold demonstration on December 12

08 Dec, 2011

Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) Workers Yakjheti (unity) Committee has announced to hold protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club on December 12 against the power utility for non-implementation of an agreement signed with the union on July 26 this year providing the job security to the surplus workers.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club here on Wednesday, Habibuddin Junaidi of KWYC and central president of All Pakistan Trade Union Organisation said all labour parties were concerned over the oppressions of KESC management against the workers. He said the management had forcefully sacked 400 workers from their jobs, while some 2500 employees were compelled to opt Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS).
He said the KESC management had clearly violated the agreement brokered on July 26 this year in the presence of Home Minister Sindh Manzoor Wasan, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad and PPP senior leader Taj Haider by not abiding by to its provisions. He alleged that KESC had formed state within a state and considers itself unanswerable to any institution. Chairman KESC Labour Union (CBA) Ikhlaq Ahmed Khan said the management had agreed not to retrench any worker but it reneged on its commitment.
