The cases of twin bomb blast that occurred on the occasion of Ashura, were registered in separate police stations on Wednesday. According to police sources, the investigators suspected to have the involvement of single terrorist group behind these blasts that were aimed at creating panic during Ashura.
Despite the deployment of heavy contingent of law enforcers to avert such happening during this holy occasion, the terrorists have successfully managed to plant these bombs at two different places besides exploding the same with wrong timings that resulted in zero casualty in both incidents.
They said the A.B. Seena Line bomb exploded shortly after the Muharram 9th procession was passed while the Kalapul bomb went off while the mourners' buses were passing from the said spot. SHO Jahangir Maher said that they initially thought the big bang was made because of cylinder blast but after the recovery of ball bearings from the spot the same was declared as planted bomb blast.
The second bomb, which was planted at a middle of the Kalapul in Defence police limits, was exploded on Tuesday morning at around 11am, leaving four passers-by namely Manzoor Hussain, Rasheed, Iftikhar and Kaneez Begum wounded. The blast left a crater at the middle of the bridge and also damaged its safety wall. The cases have been registered against the unidentified persons under the anti-terrorism act and the explosive act at the Defence and Brigade police stations, respectively.
At Brigade, FIR No 342/11 under sections 3/4 of the explosive act, 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered on behalf of Fida Hussain, the caretaker of the nearest Imambargah while the Defence police registered a case 501/11 under sections 3/4 explosive act, 7-ATA and 324 of the PPC on behalf of state.
BDS officers said the terrorists adopted same modus operandi in both blasts, adding that around 8kgs of explosive material was used in A.B. Seena Line blast while Kalapul bomb weighted nearly 3.5kgs. They said that the terrorists used remote control device for exploding these planted bombs, which were locally made by a single man.
