Punjab urban transport 575 new CNG buses to be inducted in January

As many as 575 new CNG buses of international standard would be available in Punjab in the last week of January 2012. 200 of these buses will be operated in Lahore and the rest will be provided to Multan, Bhawalpur, Rawalpindi and other big cities of Punjab.
Promotion of CNG is the integral part of Urban Transport Policy. In order to improve environmental conditions and decision of High Court, it is mandatory to ply CNG fitted urban transport buses. This was stated by Chairman Lahore Transport Company, Khawaja Ahmed Hassan, here on Thursday.
He said that Lahore Transport Company is making hectic efforts in collaboration with Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited to evolve a mechanism for ensuring uninterrupted supply to the urban transport during the days of load-shedding. He said that high-pressure CNG stations would be set up in order to provide uninterrupted supply of gas to the transport system. Through a transparent process state land would be leased for setting up of these stations.
He said that private parties would be pre-qualified for up-gradation of existing stations into high capacity CNG filling system for urban buses in Lahore. He said that upgraded stations will directly fill the buses and will also be able to supply CNG further through mobile units. He said that LTC would enter into the agreement with private parties for provision of CNG. He said that Bus Rapid Transit Project would be implemented on Ferozpur Road, Canal Road, Multan Road under a phased programme.
