Rs nine billion canal brick-lining being carried out

Punjab government is carrying out brick lining and rehabilitation of canals mostly in southern Punjab with an amount of Rs nine billion in six districts of the province under Punjab Irrigation System Improvement Project. This was informed during the annual development project-review meeting chaired by Minister Agriculture and Irrigation Punjab, Ahmed Ali Aulakh on Friday.
The meeting was told that this project is being carried out with the help of Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) in Jhang, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Rajanpur, DG Khan and Bahawalnagar districts. The meeting was also told that rehabilitation of Multan Branch would be completed with an amount of Rs 127 million, Bhowana Branch Jhang Rs 272 million and Naugran Flood Bund Rs 130 million during the current fiscal year.
Moreover, extension and fortification of Layyah Flood Protection Bund with Rs 104 million, remodelling of Sidhnai Mailsi Bahawal Link Canal with Rs 746 million and extension of Minchin Flood Bund with Rs 661 million would also be completed during the current fiscal year.
The meeting was also informed that four small dams, namely, Dhoke Hum, Mundee, Khoke Jhang and Uthwal/Lakwal Dams in district Chakwal have been completed with Rs 970 million. Aulakh directed the high ups of the department to ensure timely completion of annual development projects. A briefing was also given to the participants about the annual canal closure schedule.
