Terrorism linked to 'culture' of corruption

Speakers viewed that one of the major causes of terrorism is bad culture of corruption adding that the society itself is responsible for promoting corruption. This was said in a seminar "Together Fight against Corruption", organised by National Accountability Bureau Balochistan, here on Friday.
Renowned human rights leader Ansar Burni said that corruption has encouraged terrorist forces to meet their nefarious designs easily, adding corruption has become one of the major causes of terrorism in our country. He said that majority of Pakistani people is free of sectarian hatred and ethnicity, however, some evil elements are also there in the society. He emphasised the need to make subject of corruption part of educational curriculum. He said that students of educational institutions should be given awareness on corruption.
Chief Secretary Balochistan, Mir Ahmed Bakhsh Lehri stressed the need to launch effective measures to root up corruption. He said that corruption is being committed in the funds of development projects, income tax and others. He revealed that embezzlement is being committed even in the funds earmarked for widows and disable persons.
He lamented that some quarters also commit corruption in the foreign aid received for rehabilitation of people affected by natural calamities of earthquake, floods and others. He said reduced check and balance has created environment for growth of corruption. A speech competition between the students to raise awareness on corruption was also organised in the seminar. Balochistan Secretary Sports, Munir Ahmed Badini, Director NAB Balochistan, Major Burhan Ali (Retd), Dr Sobia Ramazan and others were also present on the occasion.
