FBR restores special allowance to Shahid Rahim

On joining the Federal Board of Revenue (HQ), Islamabad after completion of deputation as Additional Secretary, Commerce Division, the special allowance (equivalent to 100 percent of basic pay) of Shahid Rahim Sheikh (PCS/BS-21), has been restored from December 1, 2011. In this connection, the FBR has issued a notification here on Friday.
Shahid Rahim Sheikh joined as Additional Secretary Revenue Division and worked on key positions including FBR Member Customs, Chief Collector of Customs and other top positions in the tax machinery. Sheikh has vast experience in tariff rationalisation, international customs laws, global trade and actively, working in co-ordination with the World Customs Organisation (WCO) and World Trade Organisation (WTO). During his tenure as FBR Member Customs, he facilitated tariff reductions with special focus on protection to the domestic industry and facilitated implementation of the progress of the remote integrated cargo/container control system known as IC3, a Container Security Initiative specialised for Pakistan.
Besides representing Pakistan at international customs forums, he has also worked as Technical Officer Customs Modernisation Sub-Directorate World Customs Organisation. His command over customs laws, customs modernisation and rich experience would also be instrumental in improving the existing Web-Based Customs Clearance systems and enable the FBR to achieve the ultimate objectives of reforms for implementation of a full-fledged Integrated Tax Management System.
Under the new assignment, he is expected to play a key role in developing new tax policy in consultation with all stakeholders and improve image of Pakistani customs aboard. Shahid Rahim has been considered as an authority on the international trade and regional trade agreements including free trade agreements (FTAs), South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) and other trade agreements among the region.
