17th bank robbery case in 2011: bandits take away Rs 5.3 million cash

14 Dec, 2011

Despite tall claims by the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) having busted gangs of bank robbers, a branch of a private bank was deprived of Rs 5.3 million in broad daylight on Tuesday, raising the count of bank heists in 2011 to 17. According to police and eyewitnesses, some six persons within minutes took away Rs 5.3 million cash from a bank located on Business Recorder Road in the limits of Soldier Bazaar police.
SHO Irfan Ahmed said that at around 10:15 am, some six armed men entered a bank located on Business Recorder Road near Patel Para. The bandits, ordering the staff to lie down on the floor, directed the bank Manager, Kashif Chahadry, to open the strong room. He said the looters collected Rs 4 million cash from the strong room and managed to flee from the scene.
Following the information, police reached the spot and took security guards into custody for formal interrogation. A case was registered against "unidentified men" on the complaint of bank manager and probe was initiated. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses claimed that the bandits, who wore Shalwar Kamees, appeared to be Baloch. It is pertinent to mention that this was 17th bank robbery in 2011, but the law enforcers are still clueless to nab the culprits.
