Sindh Assembly: PITHM upgradation bill could not be tabled

Sindh government could not table the bill in Sindh Assembly regarding the up-gradation of Pakistan Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management (PITHM) as university with the establishment of campuses in four districts, Business Recorder has learnt.
Sindh tourism department had prepared a bill in this regard about six months back but it could not be tabled in provincial assembly, sources said. PITHM is the ever first government-run institute of hotel management, it became the property of Sindh Government after devolution of Federal Ministry of Tourism.
It has seven spacious classrooms, one training restaurant, kitchen, bakery, a big hall for seminars with sitting arrangements of about 200 people, library, student's common room and canteen. About six months ago, tourism department had decided to upgrade PITHM as University. While, a committee was also formed to preparer the draft of bill in this regard, sources said.
The said committee comprising on high level officials of department and legal experts had completed its work on draft of bill regarding up-gradation of PITHM. The copy of draft of bill had been forwarded to provincial Law department for legal opinion about four months ago and was approved, sources added.
According to major points of draft available with Business Recorder the campuses of PITHM would be established in Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur Mir's, and Larkana district headquarters. In this connection, Sindh Government had already initiated a scheme to establish campuses of PITHM with total cost of Rs 100 Million in Annual Development Program (ADP) 2011-12, sources said.
