UET holds seminar on environmental challenges

To create awareness among the youths about growing environmental hazards and challenges, the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar in collaboration with Pakistan Environment Protection Foundation (PEPF) held a awareness seminar. PEPF president Major General Anwar Sher (Retd), Vice President Brigadier Abdul Samad (Retd) presided over the seminar.
Vice Chancellor UET Engr. Imtiaz H Gilani, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion. The president PEPF said the technological advancement was the main cause of environment degradation. He urged the students to work voluntarily for protection of environment and join PEPF to play their due roles. He stressed youths to take steps for environmental protection at both individual and collective level for this cause.
The vice chancellor UET said the technology to some extent has bad impacts on environment but it has also provided comfort to human beings. Technology advancement has created economic activities, which could make the life people more comfortable. It also acknowledged that engineers should take care of environmental protection measures besides inventing through different paradigm shift, he maintained. He lamented laws and regulations existed to tackle with the growing environmental challenges and hazards, but unfortunately these laws were not implemented in the country.
