Zaka's appointment as PCB chief: LHC allows another opportunity to PCB to file reply

16 Dec, 2011

The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice on Thursday allowed another opportunity to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to file a reply to a petition challenging appointment of Zaka Ashraf as Chairman PCB. The chief justice adjourned hearing of the petition filed by a bar member for a date to be fixed by the court office. The petitioner Tariq Asad prayed to the court to set aside appointment of Zaka Ashraf, as new PCB chairman.
He said the respondent had no administration experience and also did not have educational qualification to hold this prestigious office. He said that the appointment of respondent was against the merit. He submitted that Zaka Ashraf was made PCB chairman on political consideration, as he is member of central executive committee of ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
The petitioner said as per rules of International Cricket Council (ICC) direct appointments in a cricket board could not be made and the general body of the board will have the right to elect its chairman. He asserted that under rules of ICC appointments on political basis could not be done. He submitted that the board of directors had not recommended the name of Zaka Ashraf for chairmanship.
