KPT will rationalise tariffs soon

The newly-appointed Chairman of Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Muhammad Aslam Hayat, on Monday said the trust would soon rationalise the harbour's tariffs keeping in view the global trend to make the seaport competitive in the region. Speaking at a press conference at KPT head office, he said the Karachi is more expensive port as compared to other regional harbours.
He said a committee in this connection would propose new arrangements to decrease the higher rates of the harbour to allow more shipping traffic. He said his primary plan is to make the harbour fully operational by 100 percent, as at present it is being utilised in terms of occupancy around 80 percent, besides completion of the projects is his key priority. He also announced to regularise about 92 daily wagers and contractual employees shortly.
