Punjab Assembly adopts resolution for holding democracy supreme

In Punjab Assembly session on Friday a resolution by PPP MPA Shaukat Basra for holding democracy supreme and any effort to nullify it to be resisted, was unanimously passed in the House. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah speaking in the session about problems of fertiliser and sugarcane faced by farmers of the province said that in 2010-11 sugar cane was cultivated on 1.65 million acres which resulted in production of 2.5 million tons of sugar.
The cost of sugar was estimated at Rs 131 billion, he said. In 2011-12 sugarcane was cultivated on 1.8 million acres, which resulted in expected production of 2.7 million tons of sugar. He said 65 to 70 percent payment to farmers was being made on spot. The law minister said that the monitoring committees in 29 districts of the province headed by DCO would deal with the issue of payment of sugar cane and provision of fertiliser.
