The Sindh government has not decided to observe two weekly offs even after passage of 40 days when the federal government announced to observe two weekly offs in order to save energy. When this scribe visited the Pakistan Secretariat located near MPA Hostel in Karachi, all offices of federal ministries, its divisions and other institutions were closed while some offices of provincial government located in same secretariat were open on the same day.
The office of Sindh home minister and Home Minister Complaint Cell (HMCC), offices of Excise and taxation and other departments located in Pakistan Secretariat were opened and people were busy in their work. "A clerk of HMCC with condition of anonymity told Business Recorder that all employees of the federal government are enjoying two weekly offs but we unfortunate people work on Saturdays." He expressed dissatisfaction over the decision of PPP-led Sindh government and termed it the two laws for same people of country.
When this scribe visited the provincial government's offices situated at Sindh Secretariat (Tugluq House), they were open. Besides, it was also observed that the attendance of officers and employees was very short in these offices on Saturday. The offices of provincial secretaries of Home, Planning and Development (P&D), Agriculture, Education, Irrigation, Youth Affairs, Sports, Coal and Energy, Labour, Excise and Taxation and Local Government are situated at different floors of Tugluq House.
Similarly, very thin attendance was observed in the seven-story building of new Sindh Secretariat where offices of many ministers including senior minister for Education, Works and Services, Food, Women Development, Irrigation and Finance are situated.
Sindh Chief Secretary's office is also part of this building, which is located on the first floor with strict security measures. Despite thin attendance, all offices of provincial government remained opened and the work was also continued in these offices.
There is another building of Sindh secretariat near by the building of new Sindh secretariat; offices of minister for Local Government and Advisor to Chief Minister for Information Technology are available there. While, offices of Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC), Education and some other departments were also part of this building.
Another building of Sindh Secretariat is located near by the RTO building, offices of Anti- Corruption Establishment (ACE), Zakat & Ushr, Population Welfare, Social Welfare, Culture, Housing, Inter Provincial Co-ordination and other departments are situated on various floors of the building. Similarly, many important offices of provincial departments were open which are situated in the government barracks, some situated in the opposite of Sindh Assembly and some are nearby Sindh High Court. People demanded that the Sindh government should follow the decision of the federal government and announce two weekly offs without any further delay.
