The results of the first Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Pakistan Study were declared at a ceremony at the City Campus of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi. The ceremony was organised by the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development at IBA and was attended by a number of international and local delegates who received keen insight into the existing entrepreneurial culture of Pakistan. Sind Minister Murad Ali Shah was chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Shahid Qureshi said, "I am pleased to announce that the long-awaited results of the first GEM Pakistan study, pioneered by the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) at IBA (Karachi) are being released in a public ceremony today."
The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) is an international research effort to promote entrepreneurship. Implemented in more than 80 countries, GEM studies are conducted under the auspices of the Global Entrepreneurship Research Association, a non-profit academic forum. Their results help create awareness and enhance learning about the entrepreneurial process to improve support for entrepreneurs and business ventures.
The GEM Pakistan project was launched under the sponsorship of IBA (Karachi), after securing Pakistan's membership in this prestigious world forum. The state of entrepreneurship and start-up business activity was examined acutely, including a comprehensive adult population survey across Pakistan. Detailed interviews were conducted with top national experts to discuss key conditions that govern a country's entrepreneurial development, such as government policies and programs, education and training, financial support, R&D and technology transfer facilities, access to professional services, enabling physical infrastructure, market openness and cultural and social norms that impact entrepreneurial business activity.-PR
