Scores of ladies thronged women handicraft bazaar organised under the auspices of Women Business Development Centre (WBDC), here on Saturday. The main purpose of this business promotional activity was to encourage handmade artistic work of women entrepreneurs to provide access to their products in the local market, said Nabeela Farman, WBDC project manager, while talking to journalists.
Women took keen interest in various kinds of handmade stuff displayed at the daylong bazaar. More than 20 stalls of clothes, decorated bags, woollen shawls, bedsheets, jewellery, winter wear collection and other household stuff were set up.
Nabeela said that Pakistan women have a lot of potential but there was a need to provide conducive environment and opportunities to women entrepreneurs in order to promote their products at market level. She said that WBDC had always extended support to businesswomen to present their work.
Nabeela further said that besides arranging business promotional exhibitions, WBDC had also provided women entrepreneurs with cluster facility at the WBDC. Several incubators have been set up for women businesswomen to display their art work, she maintained. She informed the journalists that the WBDC had organised capacity building, training workshop and awareness session. Javed Iqbal Khattak, Provincial Chief, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda), said that they were going to establish such facility at Swat. He said that they had planned to set up women business development centre at Swat, which is likely to start functioning next year.
