Like other parts of the world, Christian community in Pakistan will celebrate Christmas, marking birth anniversary of Jesus Christ with religious fervour, on Sunday (today). Special prayers are being held in churches in which prayers for the integrity and solidarity of the country were made.
The Christian community has illuminated their homes and churches, while shopping for the occasion continued till late Saturday. Churches were decorated with colourful lights and illuminated with Christmas trees. Not just the followers of Christ, but shops and bazaars are getting into festive mood. The bakery points are being decorated with Christmas cakes and many more eatables.
In Lahore, major Christmas ceremonies will be held at Cathedral Church, The Mall, Saint Mary Church in Cantt., Saint Anthony at Lawrence Road and Saint Mary Church in Kot Lakhpat where a large number of Christians including men, women and children will attend the prayers on the eve of Christmas.
Special candle lit service was held at Cathedral Church Mall Road on Saturday. A priest said, "Christmas brings a message of peace. It is necessary to unite irrespective of caste, creed, colour, or religion". He said, "Jesus Christ completely identified himself with the poor, deprived and the needy adding the need of the time is to revive that spirit even today."
