ITA launches campaign against vehicles with expired permits

Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has launched campaign against those transporters running their vehicles on various routes of the city with expired permits. According to the sources, ITA has constituted special teams deployed at various points of the city to check whether the permit of the running vehicles are expired or not.
These teams will impound the vehicles, which will not be released till their permits are renewed. Secretary ITA will head these teams and surprise traffic checking on various routes will be also made.
The source said that surprise checking was made on the other day at the routes Numbers 105, 121, 127 and 52 public service vehicles were fined for having expired permits, not completing the designated routes and indulging in other traffic violations. Fine amounting Rs 17,900 was also made for traffic violations and over charging, he added.
The source said this traffic checking drive has also the objective to ensure completion of routes by the public service vehicles. Secretary ITA, he said, had directed the transporters to renew the permits on time and observe the traffic rules in letter and spirit.
He said that public complaints regarding non-completion of routes will be redressed on the spot and traffic checking drive to be continued to ensure the implementation on traffic rules.
