Concerted efforts needed to eradicate polio: Shahnaz

Advisor to the prime minister on polio eradication Shahnaz Wazir Ali said that in order to eradicate polio from the country there was a need to work with the spirit of one nation. She said that all deputy commissioners would be in-charge of anti-polio campaign within their respective districts. President of Pakistan was personally monitoring the polio eradication campaign, she added.
She expressed these views while chairing a meeting held here at Commissioner Karachi Office on Monday. Secretary Health Hashim Raza, Addl. Commissioner Wahab Soomro, Deputy Commissioners of all five districts of Karachi, Assistant Commissioners and representatives of UNICEF and World Health Organisation also attended the meeting.
The next phase of polio eradication campaign will be carried out from December 30 to January 1. She said that Karachi was among the 10 big cities of the world and its image was deteriorating with regard to polio.
