LHC seeks power loadshedding schedule for VVIPs

29 Dec, 2011

The Lahore High Court Chief Justice here on Wednesday summoned the schedule of electricity loadshedding for VVIPs and premises including those of President, Prime Minister, Governors, Chief Ministers and Ministers. CJ Sheikh Azmat Saeed directed Wapda and all electricity distribution companies in Punjab to submit schedule by January 19 next. Chief Justice warned the law officer that in case of failure, a local commission would be appointed.
The CJ was hearing a petition seeking a restraining order for Wapda and electricity distribution companies in relation to loadshedding management plan. The petitioner, a bar member, argued that the government had failed to supply uninterrupted electricity to hospitals.
He alleged that Independent Power Producers (IPPs) were not producing electricity because the government was not making payment to them. He said it was a proven fact that people were facing gas and electricity loadshedding for no reason. He claimed that the government was 'illegally' collecting fuel adjustment charges, equalisation surcharge and others as it had failed to provide uninterrupted electricity to people.
