'Federal government had no role in memo scandal'

31 Dec, 2011

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) newly appointed vice president Senator Babar Awan here on Friday said that SC decision on memo petitions, brought a "mourning day" for Nawaz. Reiterating his stance Awan said federal government had no role in memo scandal and said the country's sovereignty could not be shattered even by one hundred such letters.
He was addressing the lawyers gathered outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) at GPO Chowk who welcomed him on his first visit to city after becoming party's vice president. He criticised Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif for taking the memo scandal to Supreme Court and said everybody knew that who had said him to file petition on the issue. He said PML-N was misleading the nation by raising alarm on non-issues.
He alleged Punjab police had been tasked to gather crowd for PML-N public meeting on December 31 (today). There will be another show of patwaris in Gujranwala, he added. He said that democratic system was not fully independent in the country. He held Punjab government responsible for all crises in the country. "Punjab government does nothing for people, nor it allows others to do something," Awan said.
