The US officials on Friday recognised the progress made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's students who are currently undertaking an English language course. Kohat District's A-level students are participating in a US-funded English Access Micro-scholarship programme. Through the Access programme, the students participate in 400 hours of intensive after school English-language classes and summer learning activities over a two-year period.
Programme Co-ordinator, Bushra Uzma from Kohat University of Sciences and Technology and the programme teachers were present on the occasion. US Embassy's Director of Strategic Communications Thomas Miller told the students: "We are honoured to meet you and are impressed with the progress you have made in learning English. The Access Programme bridges the cultures of our countries, bolsters academic and career prospects, and helps prepare students to participate in an increasingly globalised economy." Since its inception in 2004, over 70,000 students in more than 85 countries have participated in the Access Programme. Pakistan boasts the largest programme in the world with over 6,000 students in 16 locations across the nation.-PR
