LCCI seeks TCP intervention in purchase of rice

02 Jan, 2012

Larkana Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) has sought intervention of Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) in purchase of rice to ensure reasonable price of the crop. In a letter to the TCP, the LCCI stated that this year a bumper paddy crop of 3.0 to 3.5 million tons has been reported but the present paddy crop prices are prevailing low, despite the fact that there is no any fluctuation in the International Market.
This is creating problems for the growers and they are crying against this exploitation. Last year the paddy crop was sold for Rs 950 per 40-Kg but the present price offered is Rs 750 per 40-kg, despite of the input cost increased manifold.
"In this unstable situation, there is dire need of TCP to ensure proper prices, otherwise the prices will continue to remain low and the growers will be at mercy of exploiters.
