Online course on Cancer Genetics held

The online course on 'Cancer Genetics', especially designed for Ph.D students held at the video conferencing hall of Latif Ebrahim Jamal (LEJ) National Science Information Centre, Karachi University (KU) the other day.
The 14-day free online course from December 20, 2011 to January 2, 2012, was organised by Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research and Virtual Education Project Pakistan (VEPP) as a part of series of popular lectures for public awareness on common diseases of Pakistan.
Students from University of Health Sciences Lahore, Sardar Bahadur Khan University, Quetta and Nuclear Medicine, Oncology & Radiotherapy Institute Islamabad and Karachi University participated in the course, while 25 students from various departments and institutes of Karachi University got formally registered themselves into the course.
The course has provided a comprehensive knowledge on the regulation of cancer genes by non-hereditary factors. The course covered regulation of tumor repressor genes and DNA modification, RNA interference on cancer genes expression, role of stem cell in cancer initiation and development, and role of diet in cancer development.
