Different statements by the US government on various occasions and the publication of a series of reports blaming Pakistan for not doing enough or for secretly involved in some understanding with the Taliban are creating an environment of mistrust. The US is seen as authoritative, coercive and not concerned about the problems faced by the people on the economic, political and psychological level.
The sacrifices given by armed forces were not acknowledged properly. People generally think that the root cause of problems faced by the country is due to the US interference and its policies. Pakistan was forcibly dragged into 'war on terror' just on the pretext that the tribal areas had training camps and terrorists were being trained there. This might have infuriated the militants more who were already frustrated with the US action of targeting the innocent citizens of Pakistan. Those who already had a terrorist mind or were funded by enemies availed the opportunity and created a havoc. Pakistan had to take action to control the situation.
The US rhetoric to 'do more' and the drone attacks which killed innocent people along with extremists, created a situation where people blamed the US for all their sufferings and problems. The next phase has clearly shown that due to Pakistani participation in war on terror, Pakistan has suffered on the economic front so badly that its whole economic infrastructure seems to be collapsing.
Instead acknowledging the sacrifices and appreciating the contribution of Pakistan, the US propaganda against Pakistan government and its armed forces is continuing. Allegations after allegations and drastic actions of the US have strained the relations to an extent that there is a possibility of reaching on a point of no return. The financial constraints and the increase in prices of essential commodities make the life of masses miserable. Loadshedding is another agony. Increased frustration is leading to low tolerance and aggressive behaviour.
If the US wants to prove that it is really a friend of the Pakistani people and wants peace in the region, then it should stop playing games. It should acknowledge the services of the country, its people and its armed forces. The US should respect our sovereignty. Some actions may be necessary but there should be a proper way to conduct them fulfilling certain obligations and keeping the people well informed by winning their trust.
