13 Jan, 2012

President, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q), Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, has said that harmony among state institutions is a pre-requisite for political stability and continuity of democracy in the country. Talking to journalists after the meeting of PML-Q's parliamentary party, Shujaat said that it was a collective responsibility of all institutions to intact democracy and any kind of institutional clash, at this stage, would be harmful.
He said that without institutionalised co-operation, the political process stands to suffer a loss of trust between civilian and military leaders that could slow down and may even set back the transition to democracy that they all say that Pakistan requires.
Shaujaat said his party is playing its due role to end the current political stand-off and strongly opposes clash among institutions. "We are against clash among institutions and all the stakeholders should play their due role in the best national interest," he maintained.
The meeting reposed full confidence in the leadership of Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhary Pervez Elahi. The meeting said that people want solution of their problems, which could only be possible if there was a political stability. Chaudhary Pervez Elahi said that they had already proposed national dialogue on issues confronting the country, which was endorsed by all political parties. He said that the judiciary, government and army cannot afford any extreme step in the current scenario and the constitution also bars it. He said, "it is the need of the hour that we all should come forward to jointly resolve the issues faced by the country, and this is the only way to get rid of the crisis, which has frustrated the masses."
"In a situation when the country is under internal and foreign threats, it cannot afford clash among institutions," he added. The PML-Q parliamentary committee lauded the services of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain for playing an active role to thwart any possibility of clash among state institutions.
The meeting was attended by Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Mir Ahmadan Khan Bugti, Ghous Buksh Meher, Riaz Fatyana, Sardar Bahadur Khan Siher, Atiya Inayatullah, and others.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters after meeting with a delegation of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) headed by Syed Khurshid Shah and comprising Syed Naveed Qamar and Qamar Zaman Kaira, Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain said that those who wanted to derail the democratic set up would be disappointed soon.
When asked he had experience of working with military leadership in the past, did he talk to General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and DG ISI in the prevailing circumstances, he said that the army had nothing to do prevailing situation. "It is irrelevant, why they would call me...just wait and everything will be on track," he added. Qamar Zaman Kaira said that they held a detailed and a fruitful meeting with the PML-Q president. When asked about the agenda for National Assembly's Friday session, there will be nothing sensational.
