LHC adjourns proceedings

14 Jan, 2012

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday adjourned to January 18 the proceedings of an application against giving acting charge to retired vice chancellor Punjab University Dr Mujahid Kamran, as he sought time to file the reply. Dr Mughees-ud-Din, a candidate for the slot of VC had already filed a petition against expected extension to Dr Mujahid Kamran now filed this application challenging Dr Muhajid Kamran's appointment as acting VC.
The petitioner submitted that Dr Mujahid Kamran was earlier appointed the vice chancellor for a period of 4-year and his tenure ended on January 2, after which he was given the acting charge. He pleaded that under the law VC could neither be granted extension nor could be permitted to serve as a stopgap arrangement.
