One of the most important needs for the sustainable development of the country is to promote technical and vocational skills, as in modern time no country could achieve long-term development sans skill development and technical training.
This was stated by Fazl-ur-Rehman Country Director of Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD), while speaking at a three-day seminar here on Saturday in which a large number of women participated, who also displayed their craft work.
He said that 4,000 women will be given the skills development training in 2012 through HHRD Skills development programme, adding that the organisation is working to make people skilled throughout the country, wherein about 36% population is living below the poverty line.
Helping Hand is striving hard to provide better opportunities of skills training and livelihood along with education and health to the people who are forced to live their lives in poverty, he added. It is worth mentioning here that in the preceding year, HHRD provided skill development trainings to 2164 women in all the provinces of Pakistan including the Kashmir region, besides establishing 22 institutes of technical education and industrial homes in flood- and earthquake-affected areas of Pakistan and Kashmir.-PR
