Iftikhar orders removal of encroachments along roads

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Transport and Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussein has strictly directed the authorities of police and transport departments to remove all such constructions and encroachments which are becoming hurdles in the way of smooth flow of traffic in the Metropolis.
He directed officials that in future all constructions on roadside should be subject to an NOC by the Transport Department and Traffic Police. He issued these directives while chairing a meeting regarding Transport and Traffic system in the province, here.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azmat Hanif Orakzai, CCPO Peshawar Imtiaz Altaf, DIG Peshawar Mazhar and authorities concerned of PDA, TMA and Cantt Board Peshawar.
On this occasion, constructions of the proposed multi-purpose plazas in Peshawar Cantt with huge car-parking facility and circular railway track in Peshawar also came under discussion and the high-ups were asked to submit viable plan for the same to resolve the deteriorating transport system of Peshawar on permanent basis. It was also decided to start computerise road permits and vehicle fitness certificates and make it fully publicity to media to ensure transparency in the system.
The meeting also decided that all transport-related matters should be transferred to the department concerned and for the purpose a special workshop arranged to devise a future strategy in this regard.
The minister in his brief speech also ordered the high-ups of the transport department to float tender for seeking service of transport operating companies for bringing new buses on the city routes and shift the existing old buses to outside routes of Peshawar.
He also urged the public-private partnership in this regard.
Mian Iftikhar also ordered the owners of commercial plazas to open their parking areas otherwise stern action would be taken against them.
