Pakistan cricket board (PCB) has finalised matters with former Sri Lankan and Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore pertaining to his appointment as new head coach of Pakistan cricket team. Sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that formal announcement regarding appointment of Dav Whatmore as new head coach of Pakistan cricket team will be made after the conclusion of Pak-England cricket series.
Dav Whatmore met Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf here at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore and discussed various matters regarding appointment of head coach of Pakistan cricket team. In the meeting, which was held in a very cordial atmosphere, Whatmore was introduced to the PCB Chairman.
Whatmore while talking to the PCB Chairman observed that Pakistan possesses lots of cricketing talent and the team has the ability to beat any opposition. Other PCB officials including COO, Director Game Development and Director Co-ordination were also present in the meeting.
Dav Whatmore is among the candidates shortlisted by the search committee for the slot of PCB head coach. Whatmore has been in talks with the PCB and recently resigned as coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, but an agreement has to be yet to be signed. After meeting with PCB Chairman, Dav Whatmore told reporters that his talks with PCB official remained fruitful. He said he considers coaching of Pakistan cricket team as an honour because Pakistan cricket team is one of the best team of the world.
Dav Whatmore said if selected for the job, he would use his energies to make Pakistan world champion in the world of cricket. He said he enjoyed his stay in Lahore and hospitality extended to him. When asked about return of international cricket to Pakistan, Dav said: "It was out of his control."
