Review petition: Haqqani's counsel allowed time to file additional grounds

18 Jan, 2012

The Supreme Court has granted time to former ambassador Husain Haqqani's counsel Asma Jahangir to add additional grounds to his review petition against the court's December 30, 2010 order with regard to the constitution of commission to probe the memo scandal case.
The Court also issued notice to Attorney General for Pakistan in relation to another petition against the composition of the judicial commission. A nine-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing Husain Haqqani's and Shahid Orakzai's review petition and petition, respectively. These petitions challenge the constitution of commission by the court on December 30.
During the course of hearing, Asma Janhagir, contended that she had obtained a certified copy of court's detailed judgement on Tuesday and that she wanted to file additional grounds in review petition. She requested the bench to give sufficient time to enable her file additional grounds in the light of the detailed order. Accepting her plea, the bench adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.
