In a reaction of press conference of a group of Sindh University teachers at Karachi, the spokesman of the University of Sindh termed it a baseless and piece of disinformation against Vice-Chancellor Dr Nazir A. Mughal In a statement issued on Thursday, the University spokesman said that Dr Mughal completed his first tenure as Vice-Chancellor during 1995 to 1999 and added that he left the University after completion of his tenure as Vice-Chancellor.
He said that in the press conference the teachers provided wrong information that Dr Mughal did not complete his first tenure. The spokesman further said that, no doubt, the protest is the right of any one but allegations on a Vice-Chancellor by teachers is not the proper way as certain teachers have done and provided wrong information to the media. He added that Dr Mughal during his first tenure as Vice-Chancellor introduced many academic programmes which were followed by the public sector Universities including pre-entry test, complete semester system, academic linkages and Ph.D. compulsory for the promotions of the faculty.
He pointed out that Dr Mughal was the first who requested the Governor of Sindh for the appointment of Judicial Commission for the enquiry of assassination of Professor Bashir Ahmed Channer. The spokesman said that the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor taken for the judicial enquiry of assassination of Professor Bashir Ahmed Channer and assistance for the grieved family were appreciated by the University Syndicate.
The University spokesman expressed great worry on stopping of teaching for 16 days by the teachers and pointed out that the students, parents and society expressed their great concern. He said that serious and senior teachers of the University are in a deep sorrow on the sad demise of Professor Channar and also on continuous boycott of classes on the part of some teachers.
He pointed out that presently same group of teachers is active against Dr Mughal which created propaganda after completion of first tenure of Vice- Chancellor Dr Nazir A. Mughal. The spokesman pointed out that the University of Sindh is first Public Sector University which on the initiative of Dr Nazir A. Mughal has initiated the formation of Sindh University students' welfare association and hopefully its formation will be completed very shortly. The spokesman said that having difference of opinion is the right of every one but baseless allegations against any one is totally unethical.
