Visa and other consular services in Pakistan's missions abroad have contributed Rs 13.362 billion to national exchequer during the last five years. In financial year 2005-06, Rs 3.57 billion were collected, in 2006-07 Rs 2.297 billion, in 2007-08 Rs 2,093 billion, in 2008-09 Rs 2.478 billion and during 2009-10 an amount of Rs 2.919 billion was collected through such services.
A senior official on Sunday said as per standing instructions, consular fee is charged on consular services by the mission on behalf of ministry of interior, Islamabad, and every month the credit on this account is duly accounted for in the monthly cash account by the missions. He said the office of chief accounts officer on receipt of monthly cash accounts, transfers the amount to the respective account of ministry of interior.
The mission, however, charges 20 percent over and above the consular fee, which is transferred to Pakistan Community Welfare & Education Fund and to the fund for Improvement of Government Owned Buildings equally, which is 10 percent to each.
