The Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the PML (N) leadership had moved the memo issue before the Supreme Court, therefore, it should pursue it to the end. He was talking to the media at the Surrayia Azeem Trust Hospital being run by the JI and the Al-Khidmat Foundation.
Liaqat Baloch said that the statements from the White House and the US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton that the US was monitoring the memo issue had indicated the direction the issue could take. He said it appeared that the Pakistani rulers were ready to accept the US demands regarding Nato supplies and Washington was obstructing Ejaz Mansoor's visit to this country as a lever.
However, he warned the government of countrywide public reaction in case it dared to restore Nato supplies on any pretext. The JI leader urged the apex court to order reopening of more than 8000 criminal cases against politicians and civil and military high ups, besides over 9000 pending against MQM people that had been dropped under the NRO. He said the people could never pardon those involved in target killings and other heinous crimes.
