Partly Facetious: Shahbaz wants to do everything himself

27 Jan, 2012

"The problem with Punjab governance is that the Chief Minister does not have enough ministers."
"I am sorry?"
"Well, the guy wants to do everything himself with his band of merry men who incidentally are not politicians but bureaucrats and so you have incidents like the deaths in the Cardiology..."
"Hey, stop. You know that investigation is ongoing on that unfortunate incident, I mean we really do not know if those who died were wrongly prescribed a medication or..."
"But my original statement stands: the Chief Minister needs to have more ministers."
"What are you? An apologist for Raja Riaz?"
"I don't understand... the fact of the matter is that Punjab governance suffers from lack of ministers."
"And what about federal governance? It suffers from a surplus of ministers?"
"Sorry?"
"There are simply too many ministers in the centre and lets be honest they are part of the problem and not the solution. I ask you: has Railways performed better under Bilour? I ask you: has water and power performed well under Naveed Qamar? I ask you: is the fact that our budget deficit is all set to exceed what this government inherited in 2008 is a vote of confidence in favour of our Finance Minister?"
"There are other factors at play?"
"What factors?"
"I can't ask anyone this question because they are all out of the country including President, the Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan."
"It's the season to be jolly..."
"I thought that was in December?"
"In Pakistan there are delays as you know."
"Indeed."
