The three lawyers, who were gunned down in a drive-by shooting in the remits of Aram Bagh police on Wednesday evening, were laid to rest at Kala Board graveyard here on Thursday amid tight security arrangements. Earlier, their funeral prayers was offered at Hussaini Imambargah, Saudabad, which was led by Allama Salahuddin and attended by large number of people including Allama Aga Salahuddin, Allama Ali Muhammad Wakil, members of Shia Ulema Council and others.
Allama Aga and Allama Ali in their speeches said the Shia community had demonstrated unity and staged protest sit-in outside Governor's House after the killing of Askari Raza. They said the Shia community had ended the sit-in after government's assurance that the murderers would be arrested. But, the authorities concerned despite assurances have not yet taken the murderers to task.
They asked the government to take stern measures to avert such incidents in future, otherwise Shia community had all the rights to decide its future line of action in this regard. When the biers of the deceased were brought to Kala-board graveyard for burial, some miscreants set stalls and tires on fire and resorted to heavy aerial firing that created fear and tension in several parts of the city including Malir Halt, Jaffar Tayar Society, Shah Faisal and Drig Road.
Police sources said the case (27/12) of the incident was registered under sections 324/34, 302/34 and 7ATA against unknown culprits on the complaint of injured lawyer Babar. Police has initiated probe. DIG South Commander Shaukat, who is also in-charge of the investigation committees established to probe the recent incidents, said they had taken crime branch, CID and other investigation agencies on board to nab the culprits. He said that although the investigation had been initiated, the department was so far clueless about those behind the killings.
Meanwhile, another member of the committee, SSP Niaz Khoso, said that detained persons from different sect were also under investigation and the police was presently busy to draft the sketches of the culprits with the help of injured lawyer and other eye-witnesses.
