Chairman Senate, Farooq H. Naek has underlined the need for further strengthening bilateral co-operation and consolidating the bond of friendship between Pakistan and Afghanistan through frequent Parliamentary exchanges and people to people contacts for mutual benefit of the two brotherly countries as they share common culture, history and religion.
He expressed these views in a meeting with 12-member Afghan Parliamentary Delegation led by Fazl-e-Hadi Muslimyar, President of Meshrano Jirga of the Afghan Parliament, which called on him here on Tuesday. Chairman Senate observed that proactive role of the Parliamentarians of Pakistan and Afghanistan is essential to work out and implement effective strategies with regard to eradication of the menace of terrorism in both the countries.
"Peace, security and stability in Afghanistan has a vital link with peace and tranquility in Pakistan," Naek said, adding that an independent, peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan and region. He said that Pakistan fully supports reconciliation and peace talks and negotiated settlement of Afghan issue and there was a consensus among all the political parties to give peace a chance, as Pakistan believes in policy of non-interference and it was the cornerstone of our foreign policy, adding that sustainable peace in Afghanistan can lead to sustainable peace in Pakistan for ultimate progress and prosperity of both the countries.
He noted with satisfaction that both the countries have witnessed improvement in there ties since establishment of a democratic regime in Pakistan. Fazl-e-Hadi Musilamyar, reciprocating the gestures said that they are pleased to visit the brotherly country like Pakistan, adding that relations between the two would be strengthened further as a result of the visit.-PR
