A skin specialist and ex captain of Pakistan Army, was gunned down near Malir Railway crossing in the limits of Saudabad police station. According to police, the incident took place on Malir Phatak National Highway where a 60-year-old, Captain Ashfaq Ahmed Qazi (Retd), son of Mushtaq Ahmed Qazi, who was also a skin specialist, was targeted when he was on the way to his clinic situated in Malir.
Resultantly he received two bullets on his upper torso and died on the spot. The culprits managed to flee from the scene. Police shifted his body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico legal formalities. DSP Imdad Solangi said the police had recovered two empty shells of 9 MM pistol from the scene. He added the victim was the father of two religious scholars.
Later police handed over his body to the heirs. SSP Investigation zone East Niaz Khoso said the incident appeared to be sectarian killing as the victim belonged to Deo Band sect. He said that it was premature to ascertain the fact behind the killing but the victim might have been targeted on sectarian ground, as he was the father of two Muftis. No case was registered till filing of this report.
