Taiwan stocks ended 0.43 percent higher on Wednesday, lifted by HTC Corp and defensive plays such as transportation and biotech. The main TAIEX index rose 32.13 points to 7,549.21, after opening flat. HTC was limit-up with the largest turnover in the session. The transportation sub-index was the biggest gainers, jumping 3.53 percent.
Financial shares gained 1.54 percent. The market regulator reiterated on Tuesday that the financial will continue to open to China and it will study allowing Taiwanese brokers to invest in listed Chinese companies.
Electronics shares climbed 0.39 percent. The Taiwan dollar was up 0.1 percent to trade at T$29.590. Foreign investors were net buyers on Tuesday, bringing their total buying to T$51.32 billion in January.
