Overseas Pakistani workers remitted an amount of dollars 7.436 billion in the first seven months (July 2011 - January 2012) of the current fiscal year, showing an impressive growth of 21.54 percent or dollars 1.318 billion when compared with dollars 6.118 billion received during the same period of the last fiscal year (July- January 2011).
Remittances received from all countries of the world showed growth during the first seven months of the current fiscal year. The inflow of remittances during July-January 2012 from Saudi Arabia, UAE, US, UK, GCC countries (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman) and EU countries amounted to dollars 2,008.47 million, dollars 1,644.34 million, dollars 1,328.31 million, dollars 853.47 million, dollars 845.41 million, and dollars 215.64 million respectively as compared with the inflow of dollars 1,353.4 million, dollars 1,437.05 million, dollars 1,145.71 million, dollars 669.7 million, dollars 721.47 million and dollars 195.66 million respectively in July-January 2011.
Remittances received from Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Japan and other countries during the first seven months of the current fiscal year (July-January 2012) amounted to dollars 540.34 million as against dollars 594.98 million received in the first seven months of the last fiscal year (July-January 2011).
The monthly average remittances for July-January 2012 period come out to dollars 1.062 billion as compared to dollars 874.00 million during the same corresponding period of the last fiscal year, registering an increase of 21.54 percent. Last month, an amount of dollars 1.11 billion was sent home by overseas Pakistanis, up 34.37 percent, when compared with dollars 826.57 million received in the same month of January 2011.
In January, 2012, the inflow of remittances from Saudi Arabia, UAE, US, UK, GCC countries and EU countries amounted to dollars 346.58 million, dollars 231.42 million, dollars 178.07 million, dollars 127.12 million, dollars 124.22 million and dollars 26.5 million respectively as compared with the inflow of dollars 209.58 million, dollars 181.4 million, dollars 148.03 million, dollars 92.53 million, dollars 95.18 million and dollars 23.56 million respectively in January 2011.
Remittances received from Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Japan and other countries during January 2012 amounted to dollars 76.73 million as against dollars 76.29 million received in the same month (January 2011) of the last fiscal year.
