Relief goods worth Rs 300 million recovered through raids

District Administration under the supervision of District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) conducted raid on 19 godowns in Chamkani area of Peshawar on Thursday and recovered relief goods including medicines, surgical equipments and cloths worth rupees 300 million. Due to huge number of godowns the stores were handed over to the local police to prepare lists of these items to be taken on record.
During the checking four Chowkidars namely Mohammad Talib, Rafiq, Lalmir and Shams Masood were arrested and handed over to police for registration of FIR. It may be added that terms with heading Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI): Data Collection Form for Need Assessment of clothing items for flood affected areas lying in the godowns were recovered, which were taken into possession to be produced before the trial court during trail of the case.
During the checking, a shopper with the label "Giving Hope to People Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI) spearheaded by Shahid Yousaf (Pakistan's Honorary Investment Counselor at Vancouver), was also recovered. It may further be added that most of the medicines/surgical equipments and NFIs were received from the European countries for flood affectees after conducting necessary survey in the whole of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and as such, on the basis of survey report all these medicines and surgical equipments etc were handed over to the NGO.
As per source report, after changing the expiry date on the medicines those are dispatched to Afghanistan and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It was reported that those medicines and surgical equipments were dispatched to Rajinpur, Sahiwal, as enquired from the Chowkidar. However, the owner avoided arrest due to absence from the spot.
The local police was directed to ensure immediate arrest of the accused involved in this ugly business causing losses to the human life. Drug Inspector also taken samples of medicines required for registration of case under Drug Act. He was directed to complete the investigation process on emergency basis to be put in court in time with intimation to DCO Office Peshawar.
