A cargo ship carrying pottery clay sunk off China's south-eastern coast early Saturday, killing at least eight people. Elsewhere in the country, 10 people were killed when a bus rolled over and plunged 26 feet (8 meters) into a gully. Xinhua News Agency reported one person was rescued from the cargo ship and taken to a hospital. Helicopters and boats were searching for two people who were missing.
The Xinyuanshun 6 was carrying 5,000 tons of pottery clay and may have overturned after the cargo shifted, Xinhua said in a report citing an unidentified spokesman for the maritime rescue department. Saturday afternoon's bus accident in the south-eastern province of Guizhou was under investigation, Xinhua said. At least 20 people were injured in the crash.
