Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Syed Munawar Hassan on Tuesday cautioned the government that the continued injustice being meted to the relatives of missing persons could promote extremism in the country and urged the government to ensure early recovery of their loved ones.
Hassan said this while addressing the sit-in of missing persons' relatives being staged under the banner of Defence of Human Rights at Parade Avenue for the last seven days. "Injustices and violation of fundamental rights give birth to extremism, therefore, the government needs to provide justice to the relatives of mission persons, otherwise it would create dire consequences in future," he warned.
He said it was shameful that youths and citizens were being abducted without any justification. He said that JI from day one had raised the issue of the missing persons and would continue to do so till their safe recovery. He urged the government to ensure early release of the missing persons, terming it a national issue. He said that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure security of all citizens. "Government functionaries are pressuring the protesting relatives of the missing persons to remove the sit-in camp while taking no action against those who are responsible for this inhuman act," he said.
Amna Masood Janjua, Chairperson DHR, urged the government to shun all negative policies, especially those that support the forced abduction of innocent people while proper legislation should also be made in this regard. She said that the families of missing persons were suffering economically and government should take immediate notice of this. "We respect all institutions and sit-in camp is not against any one but we want justice," she added. A large number of relatives of missing persons including women and children are taking part in the sit-in for the last seven days. They said that they would continue their protest till the recovery of their loved ones.
