Four police personnel including Station House Officer (SHO), killed and six others injured in an attack by militants on City Police Station here on Friday morning. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Imtiaz Altaf, however confirmed two killings and wounding of six personnel in the incident.
The injured were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), where two personnel succumbed to their injuries. According to sources, the militants armed with hand grenades stormed the police station situated in a thinly populated area on about 7:00am. The militants also hurled hand grenades and later during encounter blew themselves up. The explosions was heard in different parts of the city. The police had found the body remains of two suicide bombers.
Abdullah Azam Brigade Group, a militant outfit had reportedly accepted the responsibility of the attack, saying it was a revenge of the killing of Badr Mansoor, who was recently killed in a drone attack in Waziristan. The group threatened the continuation of such attacks till the stoppage of drone attacks.
The management of the hospital has said they had received nine injured and two of them namely Manawar Khan and Dawar Khan succumbed to their injuries in hospital. The two other cops, who succumbed to injuries, were Khan Shah and Falak Naz. The funeral prayers of all four police personnel were offered at Malik Saad Police Lines and later their bodies were dispatched to burial in their native towns.
