Prime Minister takes notice of Polio cases

The Federal Minister Mola Bux Chandio said that Prime Minister of Pakistan took serious notice for still having Polio cases in the country and directed all the Federal Ministers/Cabinet members to visit their areas and personally monitor the anti-polio campaign to make Pakistan as polio-free country.
He was presiding over a meeting at old Zila Nazim Secretariat today to review arrangements for the next 3 days' anti-polio campaign that is to be started on 12th March 2012. He said since the eradication of Polio is a national cause and matter of saving new generation from disability we all have to work beyond our mere duties to combat and eradicate polio from the country. Mola Bux Chandio underlined the need of providing awareness to masses particularly those living in remote areas and slums and directed the officers of concerned departments to start awareness campaign before anti-polio campaign. He said that unless every segment of the society made involved in polio eradication campaign, we would not get rid of Polio menace. He assured the officers of Health Department his full support in polio eradication process and asked the District Health Officer Hyderabad to submit him requirements including demand of additional fund in writing. He also offered his participation in anti-polio walk on 10th March 2012 in order to ensure people's involvement. He directed the concerned officers to make the walk on 10th March 2012 attractive and also to arrange colourful programmes regarding attention could be caught that help in eradication of Polio.
Earlier, District Polio Eradication Committee's focal person Dr Ashraf Memon while giving briefing about arrangements of 3-day polio campaign to be started from 12th March 2012 informed that for administering polio drops to 294,642 children under 5 years of age, 686 mobile teams, 86 teams at fixed sites and 34 teams at transit points have been constituted.
He informed that 98 percent mobile teams with at least one female member have been ensured. He also informed that 820 Lady Health Workers would be involved in the campaign and 7 District Focal Person at District level and Zonal Co-ordinators at Taluka level have been assigned duties during the campaign.
