Guwar prices recorded exceptional rise; other commodities move both ways

Guwar rose sharply, Basmati rice , wheat, gur, ginger, til, castorseeds and Irri-6 Sindh rose on the seed and grain markets during the week ended on March 3, 2012, while some commodities went down slightly or stayed put.
The opening session saw most commodities on the grain market looking up such as til low type ended unchanged at Rs 3300, while the other type rose by Rs 250 to Rs 3750, castorseed Lasbela rose by Rs 50 to Rs 2000, cottonseed oilcake with bag in Sindh low type shed Rs 50 to Rs 450 while better type gained Rs 100 to Rs 850, gur low type gained Rs 100 to Rs 3800, while the other type stayed put at Rs 4800, Irri-6 Sindh rose by Rs 25 to Rs 3250 and Rs 3325.
On Jodia Bazar Kirana items (per 40 kg) black pepper Singapore rose by Rs 2000 to Rs 26,000, black pepper from Ceylon was quoted at Rs 25,800, black pepper from Brazil gained Rs 1000 to Rs 27,000, mace dipped by Rs 2000 to Rs 94,000, nutmeg was quoted at Rs 94,000 big cardamom lost Rs 1000 to Rs 61,000 cloves rose by Rs 1000 to Rs 51000, Copra from India lost Rs 200 to Rs 5500, dry ginger from China up at Rs 13,000, dry ginger Ethiopia lost Rs 1000 to Rs 7000, peanuts rose by Rs 200 to Rs 5100, Star aniseed lost Rs 500 to Rs 16000, and Darchini rose by Rs 200 to Rs 6400.
On Tuesday moong Punjab was quoted up at Rs 8500, wheat old and new gained and was quoted at Rs 2690 and Rs 2750. Guwar Sindh gained Rs 100 to Rs 1900 and Rs 2000, cottonseed oilcake with bag in Sindh low type gained Rs 50 to Rs 500 and fine variety down by Rs 250 to Rs 600.
On Jodia Bazar chemical items (per kg) Petroleum Jelly white Iran quoted at Rs 45, Sulphonic acid HARD rose by Rs 5 to Rs 190, DDBSA turned higher by Rs 10 to Rs 180 and PVA Japan was quoted at Rs 268 Rangolite "C" China moved lower by Rs 3 to Rs 90 and Germany's was quoted at Rs 99.
On Wednesday gram prices were lower on the grain markets; gram Australia No: I lost Rs 4000 to Rs 7200 and Rs 7500, gram dal No I shed Rs 300 to Rs 8700 and Rs 9000, gram 50x50 lost Rs 500 to Rs 8200 and Rs 8500, yellow peas Canada dal shed Rs 200 to Rs 5100 and Rs 5300, yellow peas Ukraine shed Rs 250 to Rs 4350 and Rs 4550, yellow peas dal Ukraine shed Rs 200 to Rs 4900 and Rs 5100, wheat inferior type was unchanged at Rs 2690 while the better type shed Rs 10 to Rs 2740.
On Thursday Irri-6 Sindh rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3275 and Rs 3375, Basmati 386 new up by Rs 200 to Rs 5000 and Rs 5200, Super Basmati Punjab new rose by Rs 200 to Rs 7000 and 7200, Super Sela Karnal low type was up by Rs 200 to Rs 7000 while better type rose by Rs 500 to Rs 7500, Super Karnal low rose by Rs 500 to Rs 9000, while better type rose by Rs 300 to Rs 9300, wheat old bardan up by Rs 20 to Rs 2700, while wheat new bardan shed Rs 10 to Rs 2730.
On Jodia Bazar chemical (per pound) Hydrosulphite (per pound) China 88pc rose by Rs 5 to Rs 190, Germany lost Rs 5 to Rs 190 and India rose by Re 1 to Rs 77, Hydrogen peroxide Descon 50pc ended lower by Rs 3 to Rs 42, Sitara ended down by Rs 6.40 to Rs 42, Taiwan 35pc shed Rs 3 to Rs 45, Korea five percent was quoted at Rs 48 and Thailand lost Rs 4 to Rs 41
On Friday commodity items showed no change as almost all the participants were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Saturday panic buying of guwar by exporters pushed the rates sharply higher in Sindh and Punjab rose by Rs 5000 to Rs 24000 and Rs 25000, gur prices went up sharply on strong demand as low type gained Rs 400 to 4400 and best quality was higher by Rs 500 to Rs 5500, wheat old Bardan rose by Rs 10 to Rs 2720 and wheat new bardan picked up Rs 20 to Rs 2750, other items retained the overnight levels in process of trading. On the grams sector gram 50x50 prices dropped by Rs 100 to Rs 8100-8400, yellow peas dal Canada shed the same amount to Rs 5000-5200, yellow peas Ukraine also lost the equal amount to Rs 4250-4450 and yellow peas dal Ukraine dropped by Rs 150 to Rs 4750-4950. On the seed counter cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh low type did not show any change at Rs 500 while the good quality gained Rs 200 to Rs 800, they said.
