The Punjab University (PU) security guard Imran Rehmat, who was died after alleged torture of Muslim Town Investigation Police, was laid to rest here on Monday at Wafaqi Colony graveyard. Earlier the heirs of the deceased guard staged a protest and denied to receive the body from city morgue without post-mortem when police officials tried to hand over the body to the relatives for burial.
Irfan Rehmat, the younger brother of deceased guard said that they have registered a FIR against two university officials including Kamal Gill State Officer and two police officials. No university senior officer has condoled the sad demise of Imran Rehmat, the family sources said.
The atmosphere was very sad at Punjab University over the custodial death of a poor security guard. Abbas Lodhi, President Employees Association said that Vice Chancellor Dr Kamran Mujahid had directly involved and he must be punished. Police could not lodge a FIR against any university employee without permission of VC. The administration had handed over the young security guard to police after nominated him in FIR and even they had not provided him a chance for departmental inquiry, which was unjustified.
The Employees Association demanded the Punjab government to terminate the VC and booked him in the death case of an innocent employee, he added. The spokesman of PU said that university administration had not registered any case against deceased guard. Police had lodged a motorcycle lifting case against the deceased guard over the complaint of a lawyer and university authorities have no concerned in this case.
