Criminals' record to be computerised: jails' manual to be changed, Sindh Assembly told

The Sindh Law, Jail and Prisons Minister, Ayaz Soomro, on Friday told the Sindh Assembly that the government would soon change the jails' manual in the province through legislation, besides computerisation of criminals' record.
With Speaker Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khohro in Chair, the Minister replied answers to a number of questions asked about his department, saying the government is making efforts to appoint officials in other departments on merit like the ones have been posted in the jail and prison.
Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) legislator, Jam Tamachi along with other lawmakers lauded the performance of Jail and Prison Department, sharing his observation he said that improvement has been seen in the department's working. Ayaz Soomro pointed out that a prison-room in which President Asif Ali Zardari had been inmate, now turned into a library. He assured the House that the inmates have been provided with basic facilities in jails. He also informed the House that three new jails are being constructed in the province - in Mirpurkhas, Thatta and Shaheed Benazirabad districts. He said each jail would have a capacity to house one thousand inmates.
